In general, is GH horrible as any big/large car in parking, particularly in front/parallel, without the features in Limited/Platinum for PDC and panoramic view camera?
At least all trims have the Backup camera57 with dynamic gridlines.
The wife has been parking for over 24 years with her 2002 Odyssey without any of the latest tech.
In my X3, i do have front/rear/pano vision, but rarely do i use them for any parking scenario. I should try though, including its self parking features, lol.
So, our GHH XLE AWD is few weeks out. And during waiting, all sorts of thoughts are floating in my head.
This GHH XLE will be the wife's daily, to replace her current 2002 (yes, not a typo, year 2002) Odyssey minivan. The mpg/range is the ~80% of the reason for going with Hybrid. Remaining 20% for the (comfortable) 3rd row option.
We had carefully picked GHH XLE over the Limited trim, going through the usual pros, cons, between our wants and needs.
We had both test drove GH (non-Hybrid as the Hybrids as expected non are on local dealer lots) XLE and Limited.
All good. (or is it ...)
Then we got talking some more in-depth about the parking aspect of GH due to its size. Size is all good. It's not much bigger than her Odyssey. But where the difference is in the "front", hood height.
These 2 features missing in XLE are at the source of conversations around parking, while waiting for our car to arrive,
a) Front and Rear Parking Assist with Automatic Braking (PA w/AB)
b) Panoramic View Camera/Monitor $640 (but seem to mostly get bundled with PANO ROOF, which we do not want nor need)
My understanding is that the feature (a) above gives parking distance control sensors in both front and rear, is that right?
And feature (b) above gives transparent view under the car, i suppose can further aid in parking.
I'm calling around what's available in similar time frame in local dealers allocations for GHH limited. Not having much luck.
Still GHH Limited would be few thousands above what i'm paying GHH XLE (not just on base price but i kind of have good discounts, yes, not a typo, amazing was able to knock few $ off suggested MSRP), just to get above 2 features (a) and (b).
The wife will probably have the seat height all the way up, just her driving style, and she's just ~5.1 feet or so. So the seat height should help. And the running board, lol.
Bottom line, XLE works for us, and it is what it is, except, damn this parking thoughts keep going around in circle.
And in our couple of test drives, i didn't really notice huge challenge. And the wife didn't seem to complain.
